See native birdlife and exotic trees, hike to hidden waterfalls, experience gourmet dining or unwind amid the captivating scenery at Bellavista, a cloud forest reserve. Set atop Ecuador’s Tandayapa Valley, Bellavista is spread over approximately 1,750 acres (700 hectares) of enchanting tropical cloud forests and verdant mountain slopes.

Explore over 20 hiking trails with knowledgeable and bilingual guides. The Field Trail presents spectacular views of the Tandayapa Valley while the Ridge Trail passes through thick bamboo forest to a stunning viewpoint. Visit isolated waterfalls on the Discovery Falls Trail and Stream Trail or bushwhack your way through the Valley of the Mist. Marvel as the sun’s rays cast a mystical light over the reserve and keep watch for a profusion of botanical delights such as bromeliads and orchids.

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve is a wildlife lover’s paradise and provides a natural habitat for over 300 bird species. The Antpitta Trail and Ocellated Tapaculo Trail are great for birding. Spot beautiful jay, plate-billed mountain toucan and tanager finch, among others. You might also see pumas, Andean coatis and the endangered spectacled bear.

Visit the reserve on daytrips or stay overnight at its eco-lodge, which has accommodation to suit all budgets. Wake up to the sound of birds fluttering overhead as you recline in a hammock. Enjoy Ecuadorian cuisine at a restaurant set inside the Dome, a multi-level geodesic glass dome. Sit and watch a multitude of hummingbirds from the dome’s viewpoints.

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve presents an ideal combination of adventure, ecotourism and relaxation. Situated close to the equator and a 90-minute drive from Quito, the reserve’s mild climate makes it a great year-round destination. Combine your visit with other nearby natural wonders. Zip line over a cloud forest canopy at Mindo Forest Reserve, spot exotic birds at Refugio Paz de Aves and ride on horseback through the Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve.
