"The first thing you should know is that this is not a hotel. It's an apartment with two flats, one on the second floor and one on the third floor, above a storefront about half way between the Ueno and Asakusa stations. That said, it's not bad as a rental apartment, and was a good fill-in for us when our Air BnB booking was cancelled on short notice. All of the communication with the owner was via the Expedia site - we never met anyone in person, but got check-in instructions via messages...

"Our host Yoshi and the staff at Toe Library were incredibly welcoming, offering us tips around the neighborhood and, when we left, a bag of delicious Japanese cookies. The room itself was cozy, well-appointed, and full of personality—and we especially appreciated that because we happened to be there during a typhoon and spent a lot of time lounging there as we waited for the worst of the storm to pass. This is a completely unique stay and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo."

"Nice neiborhood in a well preserved japanese área. It is nice to see how regular native people lives. Hanare is very basic, small rooms with tatami. No enough room for the luggage and only 2 hangers in the room and one very narrow Mirror. It would be nice to have at least a shelf and a bigger mirror ( wider). "ゲストハウスなのに、バス、トイレ付きの個室が使えたし、駅から近いので、楽チンでした。会社の研修があり、木金でビジネスホテルを探したのですが、友人の情報もあり、試しに初めてゲストハウスを予約してみたのですが、安いし、下手なビジネスより、部屋も広いし、おトクな気がしました。今回は1人でしたが、グループで泊まってもいい部屋タイプもあったので、イベントで遅くなる時なども利用できそうです。研修後、食事をしてからチェックインになったので、少し遅くなったけど、オーナーさんが親切に対応してくれました。ありがとうございました。"

"I still like the place and it is still my go to. But the prices went up… and the rooms remained the same. I also didn’t get the same room as usual and I had no view of the tower. First time I get a room without the view and that changes everything."

"The Shinjuku Granbell Hotel was lovely. We booked an economy twin and we're a little apprehensive, but the 183 square feet fit 2 people with backpacks quite comfortably. The breakfast buffet (they call it continental, but only because they do not make food to order) was a really nice spread of Western and Asian foods, and having it on the 12th floor presented a nice view of Shinjuku. Also, nice to have a microwave to warm foods from the nearby grocery (it was a long trip). If we were planning to stay in Shinjuku, we would stay again."

"Excellent hotel and service. I had a 3 week stay. It was always a pleasure to comeback to the hotel after a long day. My room was cosy, modern and clean. Every couple of days, staff would replace bedsheets and supply fresh towels. It was well air conditioned, which was easy to use. Remote panels for it and light control, placed on the headboard of the bed. The bed mattress was kind of on the firmer side but I was comfortable and never struggled to sleep. Wi-fi connection speed was fast and never dropped connection. Staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. I used the laundry service and was very impressed with how my clothes were returned to me. Packaged, clean and ironed. Would recommend if you are in for a long stay and travelling light. The day I was to leave, my check out was 11:00, my flight 12hrs later. They securely stored my luggage (free of charge) all day. Staff will also arrange a taxi for you, which arrived within minutes. Ideally located. You are a couple minutes walk from the train station. The street the hotel is located on is busy with plenty surrounding the area (restaurants, cafe's, convivence stores). But it is still quieter than the hive of activity that is also only a couple minutes walk away. Home comforts? look for the "HUB" pubs. You'll understand when you arrive. Hotel - Smoking area on 2F. The only thing I would change; I would of liked the hotel bar to be open later than what it was. Overall, I loved it. Highly recommended."
