“We stayed overnight at The Gateway Inn for a nearby family function and it was absolutely lovely - we wish we could have stayed longer and definitely intend to come back. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms and bar/restaurant are all comfortably and beautifully finished. “A great location to stop after a long drive. Very convenient. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was spotless with lovely locally sourced products. Whilst we didn't eat dinner here it was busy and there us a children's play area too. We ate at the Hare & Hounds; a very pleasant 20 minute walk away. There is plenty of car parking spaces at the Gilpin. The breakfast is very basic. We would definitely stay again but not opt for the breakfast.”

“It's in the process of having a refurb. Good location and we got a great deal for 2 single rooms overlooking the main street. Traditional hotel. Decent bar. Typical keg beers, but reasonable prices. Rooms tidy. Lovely bath, if you prefer a soak. Probably a 4.6/5 for me. 😊”

“This is a unique little inn in the middle of the country. It was a fun stay, even though we only stayed overnight as we were traveling from Scotland highlands to London. The beds were fine, not spectacular. The bathrooms were clean and the shower pressure was amazing! The only thing I have to complain about is that the staff opened the windows and even though we shut them right away, I was still bitten up by midgies all night.”

“Lovely room at the Royal Oak, perfect for a quick stay. Bed was comfy and shower was good, what more could you ask for! Pub was not open Sunday evening, so we didn't get to eat here, but heard that the food is very good. No breakfast in morning, but lots of options in Cartmel so wasn't an issue. Would recommend.”
