This is not a 3 star property, which it shows as on different sites. There is very new owners so I don’t know if they have ambitions to make it a 3 star, but this is a basic 2 star. Very old building, which is a bit charming and that can be to the advantage, with some creativity.
The bed is a clean, new 10” mattress, no topper, so quite firm. Very hard to get comfortable. The pillows are postage size and not varied, all squishy. The linens are old at best, it’s a sheet, a light covering with another sheet on top. No duvet. The furniture is goodwill. Just straight out, old furniture, not nice or comfortable.
The towels were from the local prison? They were quite scratchy, tiny, zero softness. I was like, is this hotel California…where you check in but never check out? Felt like a prison sentence in the bathroom. Tiny sink, no room to put stuff. No dish for the soap. Toilets very low, have good knees or forget about it.
The staff were nice, mostly pretty responsive. Again, 2 star property, 2 star service level. Coffee 24/7 in lobby. Decent continental breakfast. Area is not too walkable, though great deli just up the alley.
Overall, unless you like 2 star at 3 star prices, I’d stay downtown.
