“Was a little further from Selkirk than expected/noticed at booking but was worth the extra miles. Bus didn’t stop so had to book a taxi from Selkirk. The hotel was helpful and offered to come pick us up if needed! Food at dinner and breakfast was excellent.”

“Booked just ‘cause it fitted my travel plans but found a great wee Hotel punching well above. Dinky room but well appointed. Great restaurant with good selection on menu, delicious 2 courses served by friendly, attentive staff. Breakfast cooked fresh, best I’ve had in sometime. Very good quality for not a lot of money. “Lovely stay. Our room had previously been the old public bar, so was huge! Decor was a little tired and could do with a refresh (especially the bathroom - such a wasted opportunity not to put a bigger bath in there)! The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious - such a treat to have kippers, being on a ban at home for them! Would recommend and definitely stay again!”

“Lovely friendly staff and super easy parking. Our room was very hot and on checkout they said we should have had a fan but we didn’t . Pillows were like hard which I get some people may like but no alternatives in room . The floorboards were all very noisy and squeaky . We were worried we were disturbing people below . Also £5 to get any ice ! Seems a bit expensive ! It is a bit tired looking and our room could do with a refresh . But that said the staff were lovely and made the place .”

“Stayed one night when attending a wedding in the castle. Can only recommend on my visit. Looked after by Cathy from arrival until breakfast next morning. Had dinner at Crown hotel a few mins from hotel and 10% discount on food was applied for hotel guests. Mind flash the key fob to let them know before the bill is on table. Lovely freshly cooked breakfast was served and tea/ coffee top ups were no trouble if asked for. Recommend the Kirkstyle if staying in the area.”

“It was really hamming up its Scottishness. Fake suits of armour, shields on the wall, animal skulls everywhere. Just wasn’t classy. The food was ok. They had tried with the vegan option - gnocchi with fried mushrooms - but could have done with some veg and a sauce. They’d run out of Pinot Grigio Blush. However the only real complaint was the price over £300 for a night, and it really wasn’t worth that. The bathroom was much lower quality than I’d expect for that price. Chipped laminate bath...

“Easy to find, well signposted. Lovely clean and well decorated room, ours was on the smaller side. Friendly staff and good food in the bar. Country park nearby for a lovely evening walk”

“I went down for breakfast at 7.30....a bit later than I usually would, but everything was closed. I tried calling the number on the front desk but didn't get an answer. The room is decent but the bed was very hard.”

“The staff keep this place alive. The front desk man was the best thing about this hotel. This hotel needs lots of tlc inside and out, run down outside, dirty broken pinic tables, needs yard work weeds, old worn carpet at the front door. The grass is overgrown near the front door you can see junk piled up thru glass doors, beds leaning against the glass. Sad really for the pric. The inside is better however dated and needs lots of help better painting in the rooms, holes in the walls fixed...

“I was extremely disappointed with the room and bathroom as there was black mould in the bathroom (behind the radiator and a bit in the ceiling) and in the room (behind in the curtain fabric). This is not a healthy environment particularly as I have a young child so very worrying. There was no reception staff to complain to. Also, the hot water sink tap was lose , the window could not be opened to air the room as a large furniture was placed in front of it. I have been to many hotel room thus was...
