"It's small and a little aged but right in the center of hiratsuka and walking distance to a lot of things. Perfect for someone coming for the tanabata like me. Fair warning, ever bed in Japan I've been on so far (4) is hard as a rock."

"The property was nice and clean. It was easy to check in and check out. The location was also good as it’s close to the station as well as restaurants and drinking spots. Will definitely stay here again. "

"Comfortable sized room and bathroom, slight smell but could have just been from the location of the window as there were other strong city smells nearby. The staff were very polite and helpful. The location is perfect for those who enjoy food and shopping, and the hotel is situated between two Family Marts a block away. "

"The staff are top notch, and the hotel is right near the Hakone Yumoto line with multiple options for travel that use the Hakone Free Pass. There are many restaurants near. Bathroom was a little dated, but everything was immaculate. Would recommend. "
"Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Onsen is amazing, beautiful gardens. Only drawback is that if don't eat at the restaurant not much close by and nothing else at the hotel. "
"Absolutely loved the onsens. Especially the larger one with the sauna and cold plunge. The free treats in the room, after onsen, and after dinner were such a special touch really enjoyed our stay."
"Was a good stay and the in room onsen was a bonus. Breakfast and dinner were great though the dinner menu was very similar over the two nights we dined there. Service levels were consistently good though it's odd that they didn't clean our room on the second day. Overall it was a good enjoyable stay.
P.S. while the hotel is near Gora station on paper, the walk there is incredibly exhausting with steep stairs and an endless incline. So if you're bringing young ones along, do take note."
"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – A Truly Unforgettable Ryokan Experience
Our stay at Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya Ryokan was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The atmosphere perfectly captured the charm of a traditional Japanese inn — peaceful, elegant, and deeply relaxing.
The kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast were both incredible — beautifully presented, full of flavor, and a true highlight of our trip. Each dish felt thoughtfully prepared with seasonal ingredients and artistic presentation.
We enjoyed both the private onsen and the public baths, which were immaculate and soothing with the surrounding nature views. The private bath experience was especially special — serene, quiet, and rejuvenating after a long day of exploring Hakone.
The staff were kind, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Every detail, from the check-in to the evening yukata service, reflected genuine hospitality and care.
If you’re looking for an authentic ryokan stay that combines comfort, tradition, and incredible cuisine, Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya Ryokan is perfect. We can’t recommend it enough — it’s an experience we’ll always remember.
