"Deluxe double room with wet room was kept immaculate by the hard working daily housekeeping staff. We had room only and ate out as we wanted to try local restaurants/cafés apart from Sunday lunch in the hotel which was delicious with excellent serving staff. We had a few drinks of Thatchers cider from the the Fat Badger, which we enjoyed either on the terrace or indoor lounge. Very comfortable bed with high quality bedding and soft white towels in the bathroom . Blackout curtains which were appreciated from early dawn light. Plenty of plug sockets in the room, also adjustable lighting. Soft close wardrobe doors and bedside drawer. Lots of hangers provided too, hairdryer and ironing board in the wardrobe if wanted. All staff were very helpful. Only drawback was when checking in on Saturday at 3pm the Fat Badger pub was in full swing and as there is no dividing door between it and the reception, it was very difficult to have a conversation and hear what they were saying about directions to the room, however we found it ok plus we were given a typed sheet with clear information about the hotel on it . An excellent stay in a lovely hotel, would stay again."

"We checked into the Grand Royal in York after a dismal experience at another hotel in York. The room, air conditioning, and staff were fabulous. The room was gorgeous, the staff could not have been more helpful, and we looked a mess after a bad experience at another hotel in York, but they treated us with respect and helped us to our room. The breakfast was fantastic, bar and restaurant and spa as well. This is the BEST hotel in York!"

"Lovely clean room with excellent shower room with toiletries. Huge TV! Fridge and kettle with tea and coffee all very welcome. The room was slightly on the small side with access to one of the twin beds a bit of a squeeze! But beds were comfortable.Check in was super quick and friendly. The breakfast area was modern and spacious and the breakfast choices were extensive and excellent. All in all this was exactly what we wanted in an excellent and convenient area for exploring the fabulous city of York. Would happily book again."
