“Excellent location, within walking distance of Ambleside, Rydal and Grasmere, also close to the main bus routes. Wonderful hosts, really friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. “Lovely staff, beautiful surroundies good place to access hikes or lovly small towns. Roads are narrow getting there but it is a gorgeous location. Excellent breakfast and pub food. We really enjoyed our stay.”

“Great location in central Ambleside ”

“The hotel is in the beautiful city of Grasmere. There was limited parking even though online advertised available parking. When I booked online, the family room showed two beds. When we arrived, there was only one. The plumbing was very noisy and the shower was very narrow and hard to use. The bed was not comfortable at all. ”

“Very average. Overall a nice pub area. Checkin was rushed. No parking nearby and confusing as to which car parks allowed overnight parking. Carpets were filthy and didn't look like they had been hoovered in a week. Breakfast was fine. ”

“Extremely poor communication ”

“Perfect place for a getaway. We were warmly welcomed by the host who straight away recommended places to go for dinner. Our room was lovely with a beautiful view of the countryside. We had a full English cooked for us which was spot on as we departed to climb scafell. We definitely would stay at this hotel again when we next visit the lakes ”

“Parking space was a great plus. A nice old traditional pub with plenty tables outside. Bed comfortable enough for one night stay. Good, powerful shower. Delicious full english breakfast. Dining room was a little fusty and in need of a some TLC and the evening meal was a bit overpriced for what it was but still an overall charming stay in this gorgeous location. ”

“Room was average for the price paid but overall looked tired. Very old pub and traditional rooms but that’s no reason to ignore mould and damage to the bathroom and paint flaking off the walls. Light fitting was hanging off by exposed wires. In the evenings the pub downstairs is busy with a lot of noise heard upstairs until about midnight. ”

“This was a very friendly place with nice food. It is on a very busy main road so opening windows at night is noisy. Bathroom needed a good clean and some maintenance, new grouting also some hooks would help in the bathroom.”
