Modern shopping malls, a golf course and an aquarium complement the fascinating Mayan ruins and archaeological zone on this slender beach-lined avenue.

The Boulevard Kukulcán is the principal roadway running through the narrow strip of Cancun’s Hotel Zone. In addition to its rows of palm trees and ocean viewpoints, the avenue is lined by some of the city’s most deluxe and comprehensive shopping malls. On a visit to Boulevard Kukulcán bring your kids to see fish and sea mammals in the aquarium.

Explore the range of upscale shops and restaurants in the Forum By The Sea Mall at the northern end of the avenue. Purchase swimsuits to wear at Chac Mool Beach, on the shopping center’s southern side. Continue south along the narrow boulevard, taking in the stunning vista of the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Nichupté Lagoon on the other.

Soon, you’ll reach the extraordinary Mayan ruins of the Yamil Lu’um Archaeological Zone. These beachside ramparts were once part of a temple and now stand between a pair of resorts. Travel past additional deluxe hotels to reach Aquaworld. Bring kids to interact with dolphins or snorkel during a jungle tour.

Nearby, find the Museo Maya de Cancún, which displays artifacts found at Mayan sites throughout the region. Study the ruins of the neighboring San Miguelito Archeological Site.

Browse the stores in the Kukulcan Plaza and La Isla shopping malls. The latter stands beside the Interactive Aquarium Cancún, with more than 1,000 marine species.

For a change of focus, practice your swing at the Iberostar Cancun Golf Course. Ride a glass-bottom boat or go scuba diving to get a closer look at the sculptures in the Cancún Underwater Museum or snorkel in Punta Nizuc.

Boulevard Kukulcán is the main thoroughfare stretching along the narrow Hotel Zone. It stands between the Nichupté Lagoon and the Gulf of Mexico. Drive to its northern end from the center of Cancun in about 15 minutes or travel by taxi along the strip, whose southern end approaches Cancun International Airport.

Filled with shops and entertainment complexes, Boulevard Kukulcan is the main artery of Cancun.
