"I cannot express how special this resort is. Small, intimate, and unique. The entire staff helped me celebrate my birthday..special drinks, food and a beautiful piece of cake with a sparkler on top, Best birthday ever. I was upgraded to an amazing ocean front room. "I’ll start by saying that Banyan Tree Mayakoba was obviously stunning as the pictures suggest. The property is immaculate and we were so impressed with how well taken care of it is. Given the cost and the rating of the hotel, I definitely expected near perfection. Our first couple of days at the hotel were a miss for us. On arrival around 2 PM with a baby, our room wasnt ready. No biggy but we were directed to the lobby area to buy ourselves a drink while we waited for the room. It took the “wow” away from tne arrival. There isnt much of a welcome experience like we’ve had at other luxury hotels. If there is one thing at the resort I think was excessive, it was the price of alcohol. Like we’re talking regular drinks that are $40 CAD. On arrival no mention was made about potential room upgrade which is part of travel status. We don’t always get it, but they should acknowledge. They also didn’t give the best overview of the resort so we got room service and stayed in, feeling like we needed to take a golf cart to get anywhere. The first breakfast food experience was also lacking at the buffet. Luckily, after a couple days, we met Karla, the Guest Experience Manager and Juan (?) the chef and our trip started to turn around. The food never missed after that. So we happily paid the price for the food. Breakfast at Sands daily was unreal and Jazmin was amazing with our daughter. We learned to ride the bikes instead of waiting for carts and it changed our experience."

"Our room with our private pool was amazing, spacious and clean. The bed was not as comfortable as I expected and I would have liked the lighting in the bathroom to be brighter. The spa was an amazing space but there were dead bugs everywhere, maybe a little maintenance before aging the amazing rooms might be a good idea. But overall a good vacation."
